As the semester quickly comes to an end, the stress level in every college student tends to rise. It seems that there is always a paper or a project that needs to be completed for every class. As for collegiate athletes, the end of the semester is an even more stressful time. Student athletes are expected to attend all practices, film sessions, and meetings for their sport, in addition to their classes and the work that needs to be completed for these courses. This is the time when student athletes need to buckle down and set their priorities straight. It is important that student athletes take one day at a time and not get stressed out with everything that needs to get done. Athletes should use practices as a break to get their mind off their work.
College can be a major adjustment in one’s life. It is usually the first time when students live away from home and outside of their parent’s or guardian’s rules. College has been a significant change for me because not only do I attend class full-time and work, but I am also a collegiate athlete. Many wonder how I am a successful student in the classroom and how I manage to be a successful college athlete too. Classes can be difficult and the work load is time-consuming; on top of all my classes, I practice every day and have vigorous lifting working.
The first secret behind being a successful student and collegiate athlete is establishing my priorities. My schoolwork and grades take precedence over everything else. My dedication to my schoolwork allows me to have the opportunity to run track. Once I have determined I have successful grades, my next priority is putting the rest of my energy into track. I dedicate myself to the sport I love. I work hard to challenge myself mentally and physically to be the best student and athlete I can be. I have goals to work toward since I know exactly what I want.
